GSM / LTE Modems

u-Blox TOBY LTE Modem

The u-blox TOBY module allows to interface directly via UART to Pixhawk / Pixhawk 2 and via USB to an onboard Linux computer.

Interface to Pixhawk

The interface via UART is implemented using the u-blox AT command set + MAVLink for the payload data.

AT Command Example: Boot and Network Registration

The first line is always the AT command, the following lines are the response from the module. The module boots in AT mode on this port, so no special command sequence is required. It runs at 115200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity. It takes a couple of seconds until its ready for commands after power-on. On UNIX this one-line command will connect to it:

screen /dev/tty.usbserialABC 115200 8N1

Check pin status

AT+CPIN?
+CPIN: SIM PIN

OK

The module needs the PIN

AT+CPIN="1234"
OK

The pin is set, check the status

AT+CPIN?
+CPIN: READY

OK

The pin was accepted and the module is ready for the network. Check the network status now:

AT+COPS?
+COPS: 0

OK

Which will change on its own after 1-2 seconds (and the blue led will light up) once it registered. The last number indicates it has a LTE connection.

AT+COPS?
+COPS: 0,0,"Sunrise",7

OK
